FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Isakson Welcomes Atlanta Braves to Washington WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) today met with several members of the Atlanta Braves, who are in Washington for a three game series with the Washington Nationals. Isakson, who played baseball at the University of Georgia for two years on scholarship, met with Atlanta Braves rookies Kyle Davies, Jeff Francoeur, Kelly Johnson, Macay McBride and Brian McCann. Following their meeting with the Senator, the players signed baseballs and took photos with Isakson’s staff and then a member of Isakson’s staff took the players on a tour of the U.S. Capitol. “These young guys came up and really bailed the season out. We are very proud of you,” Isakson said at the meeting. “I got all my heroes here. I couldn’t go to sleep last night thinking of them coming over today.” When Isakson told the players of his own baseball playing days as a catcher at UGA, Francoeur turned to teammate Brian McCann, a catcher, and said, “See Brian, he was a catcher and now he’s a senator.” Please click here for a photo of Isakson with (from left to right) Johnson, Davies, Francoeur, McCann and McBride in Isakson’s Washington office. ###
