News Releases

MARIETTA, Ga. – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., a member of the Senate Committee on Finance, which oversees more than 50 percent of the federal budget, today released the following statement regarding President Trump’s fiscal year 2018 budget proposal:

“For the first time in nine years, we have a proposal from our new Republican administration that balances the budget in 10 years. As President Trump’s budget request moves our federal government toward more responsible spending, it also prioritizes national security and funding for our veterans, among other critical priorities for Georgia and our nation. I applaud these worthwhile goals.

“Congress will take the president’s budget recommendations under careful advisement as we move forward in the process. Ultimately, it will be up to Congress to decide how to allocate limited federal dollars among many different agencies and programs, including effective, well-targeted diplomatic and international initiatives that are critical to our national security. As the budget process moves forward, I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues as we restore America’s economy.”
