Isakson Commends Georgia Students Accepted into U.S. Military Service Academies for Fall 2018
35 high school seniors accepted into military service academies
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., on Sunday held a reception to congratulate 35 high school seniors from across Georgia who were accepted into the U.S. military service academies.
Isakson nominated 27 of the 35 students appointed to the U.S. military service academies. Eight of the 35 students were accepted to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Preparatory School and the U.S. Naval Academy Preparatory School, which do not require a Congressional nomination.
“The decision to pursue a nomination to one of our nation’s prestigious military academies is an exciting and challenging opportunity,” said Isakson. “I applaud each of the students who sought a nomination, and I wish the very best of luck and offer my thanks to those who will attend these academies and serve our nation in the years ahead.”
Members of Congress are tasked with nominating students to attend our nation’s military academies annually. Those nominees who are accepted into the academies are awarded full four-year scholarships that include tuition, books, room and board, medical and dental care.
Isakson held a congratulatory reception for the students and their families on June 3, 2018, in Atlanta, Ga.
