Isakson Votes to Confirm Mnuchin for Treasury Secretary
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., joined a majority of the Senate in a vote of 53-47 to confirm Steven Mnuchin to become secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
“Mr. Mnuchin will lead the implementation of new pro-growth policies while cutting the stifling and bureaucratic red tape that has cost our economy trillions of dollars each year,” said Isakson. “Drawing from his firsthand experience in business, Mr. Mnuchin will be positioned to promote greater economic prosperity for all Americans.”
Prior to the final confirmation vote by the full Senate, Senate Democrats twice attempted to block a committee vote on Mnuchin by refusing to show up for the meeting. After a second boycott by committee Democrats, Mnuchin’s nomination ultimately moved forward on Feb. 1, 2017, following a 14-0 vote by the committee after Isakson led the charge to override the boycott.
During Mnuchin’s hearing, Isakson, who spent more than 30 years in the real estate industry and served as president of the Southeast’s largest real estate firm, pressed Mnuchin to move forward with policies that will help protect Georgia taxpayers and homebuyers.
